Time for Tea!
Teatime = Tea + time.
While people around the globe have been enjoying tea for millennia, what does teatime mean to you?
Tea.
In a world brimming with trendy beverages, few can rival the timeless charm and health benefits of tea.
And when it comes to a healthier lifestyle, tea definitely fits the spectrum of foods that are good for you!
All tea is herbal and is made by steeping fresh or dried herbs in hot water.
Green tea, oolong tea, and black tea can all contain the same herbs. The difference is where they are grown (soil, climate, altitude), how the leaves are harvested (mature or immature), and how they are handled after harvest (dried, partially fermented, fully fermented).
Some interesting facts on tea:
* There are more than 3000 different variations of tea.
* There are many other herbs that can be used for or added to make tea.
* Worldwide, 3.5 million cups of tea are consumed every minute of the day.
Time
The other requirement for teatime is... time.
Part of the true therapy of drinking tea is taking the time to do it. One of the best ways to make tea still involves either brewing it in a traditional teapot or a French press.
Buying the highest-quality loose-leaf tea, heating the water to the desired temperature, and giving the tea enough time to steep and develop its character all take time.
The result, however, will be far superior to tea brewed from the finely pre-cut or ground herbs found in the teabags or sachets. We Americans could learn a therapeutic lesson from the concept of waiting patiently for 10 to 20 minutes for our tea to be ready, then sitting and taking the time to enjoy our tea with a friend or spouse.
To sit, sip, and ponder–to enjoy a break from the fast-paced, hectic lifestyle so evident around us–is one of the truly valuable things of this life. This is tea therapy or teatime.
At Green Ridge, we have approximately 80 different kinds of teas, sourced mostly from Frontier, Natural Hope Herbals, and Lancaster Farmacy.
